Given a Second Chance

I love watching shows that demonstrate the beauty in people when they work together for a greater cause. In the reality television show “Pitt Bull and Parolees”, that can be seen on Animal Planet Channel, focuses on the work of renowned trainer Tia Torres who has made it her life mission to help Pit Bulls as well as all other dog breeds who have been abandoned and/or abused. The name of her facility is called Villalobos Recue Center in which she rehabilitates and finds homes for hundreds of abandoned and abused dogs. In addition, to aiding these rescue canines she helps paroled offenders by giving them work at her facility alongside her two daughters Mariah and Tania who help train these parole offenders in caring for these rescued dogs. What I find most fascinating about this show is the ability for human compassion. Not only for the dogs they care for but also for people who have made wrong choices in life due to lack of a positive role models in their life. I truly believe that this show allows us to take a step back and think about our humane side and how we have perceived in the past rescue canines especially Pitt Bulls as being unlovable untrainable animals. In the same token, the show also demonstrates how we have perceived parolees as being individuals that should not be offered a second chance due to the mistakes of their past and the positive results that have occurred after offering a second chance to both canine and Parolees.
