"Halloween" Seen Through The Eyes of a ESL Student

Since I can remember Halloween has been one of my favorite holidays. The excitement that I felt knowing that I was going to pick out my costume filled me with great pleasure. Even to this day, now that I am an adult I still consider Halloween as one of my favorite holidays that I get to share now with my own children. I believe, the reason I feel this way is because growing up in a Spanish household Halloween was considered an American Holiday and was not celebrated within my family. As a matter of fact, in some Spanish cultures Halloween is seen as a holiday that celebrates satanic rituals and celebrating it is seen as a horrible act. Thankfully, my mother did not share that same belief and instead embraced this American holiday as something fun and positive filled with candy and pretend play.

Do you have a similar experience with this holiday?

    1. Good entry! I liked Halloween as a child, but I really empathize with people who feel that the evil images are undesirable since in my church people feel that way, and I have had many adult ESL students who felt that way.

    2. I always loved Halloween as a child and enjoyed the preparations, decorations and parties. My family also viewed Halloween as an American holiday and did not put up Halloween decorations. However, I was always allowed to go to the Halloween parties, dress up in a costume and go trick or treating. As an adult, I still really like Halloween and I have shared my love for the holiday with my son.

    3. I really enjoyed this post. This post is perfect for ENL students because some of them may be coming from another country that does not celebrate Halloween. You can relate your experience as a child with them and help them to understand this American holiday and allow them to enjoy the culture of it and maybe have a similar experience with their families in the future. I think using adjectives for the grammar point was a good choice for this topic!
